Battlefield Commanders Review Lessons From Iraq
Outdated equipment and mission definition are chief concerns

Soldiers from Minnesota’s National Guard, 142nd Engineer Battalion, pour concrete pads for a high-voltage power plant. The facility will provide power for a "tent city" to house more than 3,000 soldiers at Logistical Support Area Anaconda in Balad, Iraq.

Spc. James Abney, Mississippi’s National Guard, 890th Engineer Battalion, uses a pneumatic rock drill on a concrete slab. The slabs will be used as a base for a "tent city" which will house more than 3,000 soldiers at Logistical Support Area Anaconda in Balad, Iraq.

The 130th Engineer Brigade includes a topography unit, the 320th Engineer Co., which provides geospatial support and battlefield visualization tools, including terrain analysis services and high-production map printing, from a mobile headquarters in the field.

 

 

94th Engineer Battalion soldiers prepare a ceiling fan for a Baghdad middle school during a Task Force Neighborhood mission. The twice-weekly missions brought soldiers into Iraqi neighborhoods to clean up areas, install playground equipment, improve hospitals and schools and create soccer fields.

Soldiers from 565 Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade patrol the Tigris River in Tikrit, Iraq. The company patrolled the river 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from April through August.
