Operation Board Games, a widening, five-year probe of pay-to-play corruption in Illinois state government, culminated on Dec. 9 with the arrests of Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) and John Harris, his chief of staff, for conspiring to commit fraud and soliciting bribes.
12/03/08 Feds Nail Birmingham Mayor For Bribes Over Sewer Bonds
Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford and two associates were arrested on Dec. 2 and charged with 101 federal counts including bribery and money laundering in connection with bond transactions and swap agreements related to bonds for a $3-billion county sewer project and other municipal financial deals.
11/19/08 Contractor To Pay Feds $900,000 In Road Inflated-Billing Case

P.A. Landers Inc., a Hanover, Mass., contractor, has agreed to pay the U.S. government $900,000 to settle a 2005 civil claim that firm officials submitted fake tickets inflating load weights for asphalt delivered to federal paving jobs from 1995 to 2003.
