The U.S. General Services Administration added an extra set of eyes and ears to a $435-million U.S. Coast Guard headquarters project in Washington, D.C., with a $16-million construction-management contract. It was awarded last month to a joint venture of Tishman Corp. and AECOM Technology Corp. for the project’s first phase. The entire six-year project, estimated at up to $4 billion, will consolidate the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, which includes the Coast Guard.Other structures are to include at least a cogeneration plant of at least 80 MW and infrastructure. In August, GSA signed a design-build contract for Phase One with Clark Construction Group, Bethesda, Md. GSA pursued a design-build contract because the construction contract, partially funded by federal stimulus dollars, had to be signed before year-end.
