Throughout the 643,500 man-hours tallied during renovation and restoration of this historic site, the team had no OSHA recordable incidents or lost-time accidents. Much of the construction involved installation of new building systems, requiring opening penetrations and infills throughout the building. Care was taken to cover or barricade holes to ensure worker safety. Work on the upper level exterior warranted overhead protection around the building as well.
Choate Construction Co. teamed with Virginia Occupational Safety & Health. After reviewing the implemented safety program, VOSH representatives agreed to not only monitor contractor activity, but subcontractor activity as well, per Choate's request to maximize site safety.
