New Cloud-Based 3D Project Collaboration Tool Offered for Free Until Sept. 30

A year ago, GT and Autodesk announced a business agreement that included an equity investment by Autodesk in GT. Dassault Systemes, which produces a BIM product called CATIA, is also a GT partner.

Combined, Autodesk and Dassault have invested $10 million in GT. "Autodesk and Dassault receive a return on their investment when GTeam is successful," says Reid.

Beta testers have been using GTeam—18 months in development—for six months. Structural engineer Thornton Tomasetti was involved in early testing. "This product fills a hole in the collaboration model-sharing world," says Steven Ross, TT's chief information officer.

The flexibility of GTeam to support all design-file formats from different platforms is compelling, adds Ross.

"The one thing I would like to see is the ability for multi-user real-time design capabilities in the product," which would allow the distributed design-team members to edit and design in the live models in the site, he adds.

GTeam testers at The Pike Co. say they are pleased with the tool, especially with the synchronization feature that allows the contractor to see any modifications at any time.
